I love diary comics. There are so many ways to do them, and even more reasons to do them: they’re a record of your day/week/month, they’re the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup combo1 of images and words, they’re visual storytelling, they’re personal, they don’t have to be “good art”… Are you feeling the diary comics love? 💖
Here’s a look at my week. As some of you know, a Beloved Family Member2 has been going through some health issues, and I’ve been helping out for the past few months. If any of y’all are caregivers, you know: breaks are ESSENTIAL. You cannot help others if you’re an exhausted blob on the floor.
Feeling that blob-on-the-floor burnout encroaching, I took drastic measures. Yes, I declared this week my Staycation.
What would happen during Staycation, besides logging a whole lotta miles on the couch? Art. Because #artheals. Drawing, but sans agenda. Sketching with complete freedom from thoughts of outcomes… Wow, what a concept.
There was also lots of good food, and some ice cream may have been involved (hot fudge: definitely involved). Mostly, my focus was on getting what was in me out of me through the magic of drawing. Each day, I felt more grounded and more myself.
Next week, I’ll share more specifics about my amazing art staycation so you can start planning yours. Until then, how was your week? 💖
So few people these days get this reference, which was to a candy commercial: “Hey, you got your chocolate in my peanut butter!” “Well you got your peanut butter on my chocolate!” Announcer: “They’re two great tastes that go great together!”…No? Oh well.
Who shall be referenced by that code name out of respect for their privacy. Not everyone loves being featured in a public forum, just because I love talking and drawing about myself and my life.
Love your staycation art! Glad you could take some time for yourself. I spent a week in CT for a needed change of pace, place, and people! Loved the east coast greenery and hours watching tides and sea birds. Got in some sketches and a lot of photos; I felt like Frederick the mouse who soaked up sunshine and stories to share when summer days were a memory...
That art staycation sounds glorious!!! Hope to reach that point soon. Meantime, I grab a few hours here and there, but am mostly too frazzled to get into a creative mindset. However, I did manage to clean my currently inked fountain pens yesterday, and set up 2 new ones for the full moon.
